Securité, Securité, Securité : Transat Jacques Vabre 2019

Warning to vessels transiting the Atlantic Coast of France through the Cape Verde Islands to Brazil :

A double-handed sailing race started from Le Havre, France on Sunday, 27 October, bound for Salvador Brazil.  59 sailboats ranging from 40-60 feet are taking part.  While they are currently concentrated in a relatively small group, this group will expand dramatically in the next few days.

The fleet is capable of 20+ knot speeds, drastically reducing time to CPA (TCPA) and potentially creating close quarter situations.  Due to these high speeds and minimal crewing, their lookouts may be negatively impacted.  While these sailboats will likely have AIS transmitting, an alert visual lookout, briefed on the race, is highly recommended.
